BS Biology-Plattsburgh State University Master of Science in Teaching-Plattsburgh State

Mr. Dennis DeLena

I was born in New York and moved here to join the WMHS team in 1999.  I came to education in an unconventional way, getting my undergraduate in Biology with minors in chemistry and art, never considering teaching as a vocation.  I then spent a decade in various jobs, some biology related and some not.  My jobs ranged from caring for marine mammals at an aquarium and as a diver for hire in Connecticut, cake decorating in Rhode Island, working with a Physical Therapist and tutoring Olympic athletes in Lake Placid, New York, and teaching Anatomy and Physiology as an adjunct teacher at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake, New York and waiting tables everywhere.

Now in my 24th year, I have transitioned to a new position.  I am now the work-based learning coordinator for our supervisory union.  I will be involved in everything from setting up job shadows and internships to setting up career fairs, organizing guest speakers, and finding community mentors for capstones and pathway explorations.
